91͵ School Board Summary for the March 25 Meeting (91͵ Media/March 26, 2024)

McKinney, Texas — 91͵’s Board of Trustees March meeting is in the books, and I want to share with you a few highlights from our meeting last night.

We started the meeting with celebrations and recognitions.

We honored our “We Are McKinney” Superintendent award winners. This month’s winners included Holly Bianchetta, the music teacher and choir director at Frazier Elementary, and Angela Hageman, the clinic nurse at McKinney High School.

Next we honored our “Paraprofessionals of the Month.” We started with our February winner – Kara Lane, the office secretary at Frazier Elementary. Then we moved to our March winners which included:

  • Alma Aragonez, the attendance clerk at Webb Elementary and
  • Carrie Doyle, the secretary for the counseling department at McKinney Boyd High School.

Our “Every Student, Every Day student award winners this month were:

  • Ayla Richey from Faubion Middle School and
  • Brenda & Blanca Ramos from McKinney High School

We honored our National Merit Finalists:

  • From McKinney Boyd High School – Nisal Gamage, Matthew Johnson, and Isaiah Williams.
  • From McKinney High School – Zane Blair Roberts and Finnegan Sutka and
  • From McKinney North High School – Braden White

We celebrated our State Qualifiers in Swim and Wrestling.

Our final celebration of the evening was for our 2023-2024 91͵ Leadership Academy participants.

It was announced that Jennifer Akins was selected as our Chief School Improvement and Federal Program Officer. Additionally, Errin French was announced as our new Director of Guidance and Counseling.

Marlene Harbeson, our Chief Financial Officer, presented a budget update.

In the discussion and action portion of the meeting, the board approved several items including:

  • an adjustment to the 2021 Bond project allocation for a virtual reality center which will allow the district to refocus and invest in creating STEAM centers in 91͵.
  • An adjustment to the 91͵ school boundaries in our actively developing subdivisions.
  • And the use of Apptegy as our communications platform. This platform will provide us with a mobile application, an updated website, and so much more.
